Parliamentary Election for Bexhill and Battle 4th of July 2024

Introducing your Parliamentary Candidate

Kindly consider giving me your vote.
I won't let you down.

Since moving to Bexhill 33 years ago with my family, I wanted to get involved with the community and really do my best for the town. I became interested in politics several years later and decided to stand for the Conservative party

Between 2017 and 2019 I was elected as the Bexhill Deputy Mayor and Bexhill Town Mayor it was such an honour for me to take up the positions and probably one of my greatest achievements. During my term as Mayor, and subsequently, Deputy Mayor I was able to get involved in many fund-raising events which I still do to this day and I am really pleased that I have been able to help raise a large amount of money for good causes, and for the people who need funding.

I later became an East Sussex County Councillor.

This week I made a decision to make a change where my political life is involved, and for many reasons, I decided to resign from the Conservatives.

I have personally hoped for many years that one day I could be considered for the position of MP for Bexhill and Battle. When our MP recently stepped down, I hoped this would be my opportunity to stand for the position. I now intend to do this as a fully Independent candidate.

As an Independent I will have more freedom to do the things I believe the people want. Independent MP’s are far more likely to engage at the very grass roots level with residents, communicating with them and holding surgeries where real conversations are aired about local problems face to face with the electorate.

Nothing would please me more than serving as your MP. The area is well known to me and I believe there will be so many advantages if the person who is voted in is local. My background has been fully invested over the past two decades as a councillor, my apprenticeship has been a long one, but it has stood me in good stead as a potential MP. I am ready now to go forward if you would put your trust in me and consider giving me your vote.

  • Having been in office for so many years I hold strong views on many issues and if I am elected as your MP I would be ready to roll up my sleeves and get down to business.

  • I want to see carers who do so much for others get what they deserve, these people selflessly devote their lives to caring for others in need, it takes a special kind of person to take on the role of a carer and they surely deserve more than they currently receive. Carers could rely on me having a very strong voice on this subject.

  • We have a major problem in the UK getting seen by dentists. In some parts of the country the waiting lists are so long and people are having to wait months to get an appointment, and and if you are a national health patient there are even longer queues due to many of the practices not taking NHS patients on at all at times. Our children and communities are being denied essential dentistry. We cannot go on in this way.

  • The creation of new settlements must have the support of essential infrastructure. Water, waste water, drainage, energy, doctor’s surgeries, schools and much more besides. Central government aim to build another million homes by 2025 and even the Planners, Developers and Infrastructure Providers have their own concerns.  This is something I follow closely and a subject close to my heart because I have seen at first hand the problems that are being caused within my own constituency.

  • Given the digital world we reside in, it seems that our youngsters are not provided with activities to draw them out into the fresh air and to interact with their friends in the way that they should. This is the cause of so many issues with young people. We are now hearing so many serious anxiety and mental health problems are becoming more prevalent, More government money must be made available for our young people.

Key Issues and My Commitments

GP & NHS Waiting Times

When was the last time you saw your GP in person? It just feels like the worst it has ever been, people suffering serious conditions are waiting far too long to be seen in the first instance. I will do whatever I can to improve patient appointment waiting times. We need to encourage more doctors and nurses back to the NHS.

Northeye Immigrant Holding Area

Whilst I realise we have an ongoing immigration problem in the UK, I stand firmly with the residents of Bexhill and the surrounding areas when I say Bexhill is not the right location for the proposed holding area. Many residents have been traumatised by the rumours that this will happen. I will do whatever is necessary to oppose this.

Sewage in our seas and rivers

I want to see Southern Water held accountable for the terrible damage that has been done to our rivers and seas. This has been instrumental in affecting tourism.  It is dangerous to our health and that of our countryside parks and wildlife. We need our beaches to be safe. Our waterways must be restored to health.

Potholes and Pavements

The deterioration of our roads has caused significant damage to vehicles, leading to costly repairs. We urgently need increased road funding to address this issue. Additionally, our ageing population relies heavily on disabled scooters, and it is imperative that our pavements are maintained to ensure safe and accessible journeys for all residents.

Immigration

Our country faces a major issue with the influx of dinghies arriving rapidly.

I support a faster immigration process and the abolition of holding centres. Relocating immigrants to other countries, like the proposed Rwanda plan, is not the answer and will cost billions.

Leisure

I want to see delivery of leisure facility’s in the rural areas as I feel the residents are missing out on fitness and wellbeing due to the distances they have to travel to access Swimming Pools & Gyms.

Prisons are overflowing

Prisoners should not be granted early release just because there isn’t enough space to accommodate them in the facilities.

Our Benefit System is Broken

We need a comprehensive overhaul to clamp down on benefit fraud, which costs billions of pounds. This action is essential.
